The softest merino I've worn

This t-shirt that can't get much better. Not only is it made from quite literally the softest merino that I've worn (and I've tried a few!) but it washes and dries beautifully, and is a really comfortable relaxed cut. AND it's made sustainably in Australia! I ordered the XS and found it true to the size guide, and on the roomier side of other womens' cuts, which is exactly what you want when climbing mountains and working from home - both of which I've done in my Ottie!

Great colour & cut but too warm for summer

I love the cut & colour of my new green tee! However it’s too hot for me for summer hikes. I have lots of icebreaker merino/tencel lite mixes and wanted to give this Melbourne brand & 100% merino a go. The weight is much warmer.
I’ll wear it in winter am sure but the west coast heat & my sweaty ways was too much for this tee today.

Twists after washing, colour difference, pulls at shoulders.

I recently received my first ottie shirt and must say I'm unfortunately quite disappointed. The colour plum has a cooler tone than it looks on the photo, and the shirt pulls into horizontal lines across my collarbones. Although I may have slightly wider shoulders than most women, I do have a small chest and went for a Large - which based on the size chart should have fit me generously. I have also washed the shirt once to get rid of the 'new' smell and although I washed it on a cold and gentle cycle, after one wash the shirt is already twisted: the side seam is now at the front. I saw later that the label says it's handwash (which would've been good to know beforehand and have clearly displayed on the website as that is definitely an issue with hiking clothes that get dirty and might've even stopped me from purchasing) but as icebreaker merino tops are fine to wash, even at 40c, I expected this to be the same. Also a shame to have to pay shipping fees if only buying one (I wanted to test one first before buying more). I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 as the fabric does feel nice and it might still be comfortable enough on a hike, but definitely not what I expected - and especially not for this price. Would have liked to return or exchange if that process was more straightforward. If I may just have come across a faulty shirt and can exchange it still after washing I would be keen to know.

Hi Len,

Thanks for your review, though it doesn’t sound like you have had a good run with us at all. Let me start by saying, we will work with you to resolve this. Our exchange/refund policy is very straight-forward. Have an issue—contact us and we resolve it with you.

Firstly, as for the colour not being quite what you expected. Indeed, the colour can differ from actual to the digital rendition on the website. I’ll place a note on the website to explain this.

I’m not quite sure what you mean about 'horizontal lines across your collarbones'. Can you please elaborate? But, it sounds like this isn’t something that is meant to happen, so we can help you with that.

In terms of washing the tee—you can absolutely wash it in your washing machine however we provide care instructions for optimal care for your merino wool. In fact, we sent an email out to our customers earlier today with a link to our care guide We do have extensive info on our website about how to care for your merino. And, I machine wash my merino exclusively and have no issues. We just recommend the best steps to get the most out of your merino—hand wash is the gentlest option regardless of brand. If yours has gone out of shape, again, I’m really keen to help you with this.

Here’s what we can do—I’ll get a replacement tee to you in Wednesday’s dispatch if that’s okay and will send a prepaid return satchel for you to get the faulty-sounding tee back to us. Please do let me know more about the issue with the horizontal lines, though.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Paul

Great shirts

Really pleased with my Ottie tshirts: great fit and feel, and beautiful colors. I’m 180cm so women’s tshirts are often too short in the body: while I’d appreciate a slightly longer sleeve, the overall fit is comfy and shapely enough without being too tight.
Perfect for hiking, and I’ve also found mine to be great for cooler day runs as I stay warm during slower cool downs or post-run cafe stops!

Fantastic shirt!

The merino t-shirt I bought is extremely comfortable, a great fit and lovely colour. I wore it on a long and hot day hike and it didn't stink at the end. I'm going to buy another one.

I would love to see longer sleeve options (including a full-length sleeve) in the future too.

So lite and comfortable

I can't wait to wear this on the overland track next month. The fit is spot on to the size guide and it is super comfortable to wear, soft against the skin. Liked it so much I have ordered a second one.

Have an amazing hike on the Overland Track, Sandra. The merino top will hopefully make it all the more enjoyable. Cheers, Paul

Ottie Green

Love the colour and the merino is so softly . The size is an XS fits well except for the length. It is too long for me. I will contact you tomorrow.

Christine Montgomery

Thanks for the call, Christine. As mentioned, we're more than happy to provide a refund if the size isn't suitable. Or else, we recommend getting your local clothing alteration folks to take the tee up for you (do mention that it's merino wool, as they'll need to use a special stitch) for around $15-20. All the best and enjoy the t-shirt. Cheers, Paul
